THE SIMPSONS' INCORRECT DISS REPLY
THE SIMPSONS' INCORRECT DISS REPLY
Five months ago, comedian Hari Kondabolu released a documentary, The Problem with Apu, which used The Simpsons' stereotypical Middle Eastern character to ignite a larger dialogue about Hollywood's cultural insensitivity. The Simpsons response–via Sunday night's episode–was essentially "Don't have a cow." Wow.
The episode sent Kondabolu's friend, comedian and activist Kamau Bell on a Twitter rant proclaiming the iconic animated show pop culturally deceased. We found the below statement from Bell interesting:
“I think the fact that they put this 'argument' in the mouth of Lisa's character, the character who usually champions the underdogs and is supposed to be the most thoughtful and liberal, is what makes this the most ridiculous (as in worthy of ridicule) and toothless response.”
